[Exchange 2010]-Multiple Client Access Server
Hi Everyone,
How do we configure Client Access Server for Outlook Anywhere access properly in Multiple Client Access Environment?
Scenario 1:
2 Office Location
Client Access Server at each location
Using the same email domain, e.g. abc.com
How do we configure the External URL for Autodiscovery?
Should there be only 1 External URL for Autodiscovery on Outlook Anywhere even for two sites and servers?
Should there be two public DNS record point to both Client Access Server?
Is it possible to point each connection to local server ONLY but not relying on other Client Access to redirect traffic?
Scenario 2:
Same setup but both site are using different email domain, e.g. abc.com and abc.com.au
Is there any documentation about this type of configuration available?
ThanksRoy

The answer is the same for both scenarios.
You didn't tell us where the mailbox servers are. If you have a mailbox server at each location and you want users to be directed to their home location, then for Autodiscover to work properly from the Internet, you're probably going to have to have
two separate e-mail domains, one for each locatoin, and separate Autodiscover records for each domain that directs users to their proper home location. For example, give users in the Australia have e-mail addresses
user@abc.com.au, and an Autodiscover record autodiscover.abc.com.au that points them to the west's CAS. You can set their primary SMTP address to be
user@abc.com, but you'll want to instruct them to use
user@abc.com.au when configuring Outlook and mobile devices.

Hello,
Autodiscover service for Outlook Anywhere does not read the External url in autodiscover vdirs. It uses: https://autodiscover.SMTPAddressSuffix/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
Thanks,
Simon

Thank Crowley,
Each site has its own mailbox server, what if it is just a local office in a country, so they must be using the same domain, abc.com.au but not different domain.

Hi Simon,
If External URL is not use, what is the purpose of it?
Under what situation will it be used?Roy

BTW,
Does Outlook, connecting using Outlook Anywhere, will update its Connection URL using information from Autodiscover?
e.g. using https://mail.abc.com.au, and then update to
https://mail2.abc.com.au
I understand the msstd and authentication method can be updated, but not sure about the connection URL.
If it does not, what happen if a user moving between offices having their own CAS and mailbox servers, will they pointed dynamically as they arrive to different office or they wil always pointing to the same one regardless of their location unless change
it manually.
Thanks
Roy

They would have to have and specify in Outlook an e-mail address for the domain that routes to that office, yes.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

There are problems in Exchange 2010 and Outlook where mailbox moves that changes the CAS array will not automatically update the Outlook profile.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."
